The strain and deformation of bridges are important parameters to reflect the state of bridge structures. The traditional measurement methods are to obtain the partial strain of a bridge by point strain sensor or to obtain the deformation of some special bridge positions by static level and other methods. These methods can not realize the continuous distributed measurement of bridge stress state. The grating array is a new sensing technology with the characteristics of large capacity, long distance, distribution, and high precision. In this paper, the grating array strain optical cable is installed on PC (pre-stressed concrete) beams to conduct loading and unloading experiments under various working conditions compared with other measurement methods. The experimental results show that the grating array strain sensing technology can realize the distributed measurement of bridge strain, and offer a what we believe is a novel approach to bridge health monitoring.
