T cell dysregulation in SLE

Clin Immunol. 2022 Jun:239:109031. doi: 10.1016/j.clim.2022.109031. Epub 2022 May 6.

Abstract

T helper cells aid B cells with the production of antibodies and thus play a central role in disease development of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Numerous T helper cell abnormalities have been described in SLE patients that contribute to disease pathophysiology and provide suitable targets for therapeutic intervention. In addition, T effector cell also play a less well-defined role in SLE. This review focusses on underlying molecular mechanisms of different T cell alterations in SLE.

Keywords: CD4+ T cells; CD8+ T cells; Foxp3; Lupus; T follicular helper cells; Tregs.
