Brainstem auditory evoked potentials (BAEPs) test the function of the auditory nerve and auditory pathways in the brainstem. BAEPs are electrical responses of the auditory pathways that occur within 10 to 15 milliseconds of an appropriate acoustic stimulus in normal subjects. This article presents basic information about the test, its methodology, interpretation, and most common clinical applications. It is designed to be used for educational purposes and is especially useful for beginner END technologists.
